Complete urban mobility tool

What you need to know:

Price: Php 15,800

Frame: Steel

Wheels: 28"

Brakes: Rims

Drivetrain: 6 speeds

How did it go:

Reasonable, built for comfort and pragmatic, the B’Twin Elops 120 is a charming alternative to MTBs and hybrid bikes of this world (or at least in many local bike shops in Metro Manila).

For just Php 15,800 (this is half the price of my first folding bicycle), it is both dignified and useful everyday transportation tool.

The Elops 120 are down to basics: a low-step through steel frame, six gears and rim brakes. But you’re in a for treat with a few essentials the Decathlon has thrown in this bicycle: kickstand, integrated rear rack, dynamo lights, and chainguard.

It all adds up to a sturdy and practical steed that’s not going to win any sprints from the stoplights but does ride comfortably when you start pedaling. And the mudguards and chainguard are not to be dismissed as novelties because it makes up for worry-free commute even at your Sunday’s best.

The swept-back bar is close to the saddle so that you have a wide vision of your surroundings to help you navigate through traffic, and the fat tires to ride confidently through cracks and gaps.

And I still enjoy riding it with panniers full of market goods with help from the integrated rack. The rear rack can take a max load of 27 kgs.

Our verdict:

I really encourage that every household in Metro Manila ought to have at least one bicycle. If you are getting that one bicycle, it should be B’Twin Elops 120. Built for everyday use, it is practical, provides great value-for-money and will withstand our harsh roads, even harsher riding experience (too much congestion) and this ongoing pandemic (to help you make essential trips).
